HISTORY ➳ Jet was born in 1945 to parents who were both Italian immigrants, he had no siblings, but he had a whole bunch of aunts and uncles and a few cousins who all immigrated along with his parents. ➳ Jet had a very normal, happy child hood full of big family get-togethers and loving parents until he was eight years old when his father lost his job and couldn't find a new one. His mother took two jobs so they could make end's meet, resulting in her never being around and growing tired and distant. ➳ Jet's father fell into a bottle in response to being jobless and having to rely on his wife to support them. His drinking problem led him to taking out his frustrations on Jet in both verbal and physical abuse. He never apologized for this, even when he was sober and Jet's mother never came to his rescue, although she was aware of what was going on. ➳ Jet used to be really into learning and reading and doing well in school, all things his parents had supported at one point, but when his father started drinking, he began to target Jet's 'nerdy' habits as something to be ashamed of. While he was angry that his father had turned on something he loved, he began to shove those desires and preferences away, believing them to only be a source of trouble. ➳ Jet rarely, if ever, saw his extended family after that. Without any support to help him deal with the abuse, he lost his faith in his own family and turned to outside sources for the connections he wanted. When he was twelve, Jet met the gang he'd later become the leader of. ➳ When Jet was thirteen, he left home after a very heated and somewhat violent altercation with his father and even stopped going to school so he could dedicate his time to his new 'family.' When he was fifteen, one of the other, older, gang members tried to seduce him. At first, Jet went along with it, but he got freaked out and tried to say no and leave, but the older boy was stronger and continued anyway and raped him. He threatened Jet that, if he told anyone, the boy would out Jet as gay and get him in serious trouble. ➳ Jet became interested in music when he was younger, before things went sour at home. He learned an appreciation for the sound of a piano as he grew older, but his love was with the guitar. He never got a chance to pick it up while he was living at home, but when he moved out, he began drifting from music store to music store, teaching himself how to play on the guitars there. After about a month of this, one of the store owners caught on to what Jet was doing and offered for him to just stay at that store and learn to play, the trade off was that he had to push past the embarrassment of not being very good and play whether there were people in the store or not. Through this, not only did Jet learn how to play the guitar (pretty well once the old man showed him a few things) but he learned how to get past stage fright. This helped him with his general confidence in his abilities with other things as well. ➳ While he was sixteen, the gang's leader got killed in a knife fight and Jet took control of the group. He continued to be the leader up until he was taken by Black Ghost at age eighteen. ➳ He once saw a guy get outted as gay and beaten near to death while he was with his gang, this only cemented for him that he needed to keep his preferences under wraps, likely for life. It's also what kept him from being honest with himself about Albert for a while and then why he was more than willing to keep the nature of their relationship private, why it still makes him flustered when it's brought out into the open. (Though that in part has to do with being confronted with his feelings as well which also flusters him.) ➳ After he became leader, he had to be a role model for the others in the gang and, due to the times and his position, there was an undercurrent of peer pressure that he should be getting chicks on a fairly regular basis, something he wasn't really interested in. He finally gave in, however, and got with some uptown girl in the back of her car. It was her first time and his first time with a girl, so it wasn't a very pleasant experience. He semi-panicked and tried to apologize despite her reassurances it was fine. They awkwardly 'dated' for four months until they finally just called it quits. ➳ After Jet was taken by Black Ghost in 1964 and was the first one to be turned into a cyborg. A few months later, Ivan was brought in and the baby assuaged a bit of Jet's loneliness by talking to him and Jet shared his memories with Ivan who had never seen the outside world before. However, since Ivan could only communicate telepathically, Jet was never a hundred percent certain he wasn't just hallucinating the voice. ➳ He only knew about Francoise because Ivan told him, it wasn't until Albert showed up that he had any actual contact with someone besides the scientists. Despite Albert's lack of real response, Jet continued to talk to him about everything and nothing, anything to fill the hours of loneliness between the scientists tests and operations. It wasn't until one day when Jet came back severely injured from one of the tests and didn't talk to Albert, that the German cyborg started talking to him instead. ➳ While Jet was hardly happy to have been kidnapped, he recognized there was no point in trying to escape and nothing to go back to now that he wasn't even fully human, so he did his best at the tests and tried to give the scientists what they wanted. He found he was good at the tests, which spurred him to continue doing them. ➳ Jet's anger towards Black Ghost isn't just about the fact they kidnapped the cyborgs and experimented on them (though that is a large part of it) it's also the fact they embody everything Jet's grown up knowing as 'the bad guys' from his stories. This on top of the fact the first four had forty years of their lives taken from them and suddenly thrust into a world they didn't recognize, is what spurred that fighting spirit back into Jet. ➳ When he first woke up, his relationship with Albert became a lot more strained since it wasn't just them anymore. However, he still listened to Albert more than anyone else--which isn't saying much--and still partnered up just as well. ➳ It wasn't until the altercation with 0011 and Jet confronting Albert about his decision to let 0011 live that Jet realized his feelings for Albert ran much deeper than he'd suspected, something that had been growing since their time in Black Ghost's labs together. He kept the frightening epiphany to himself. ➳ Due to the fact they were constantly fighting and on the run from Black Ghost, there was never a really good time to talk to Albert about what he was feeling, on top of the fact he wasn't even sure he should bring it up. He did bring it up, though, while they were all still celebrating Black Ghost's defeat. In his stilted, awkward, half-formed way, he confessed having feelings for Albert and when the other man didn't really give him an answer, Jet took that to be a 'no' and left in his embarrassment. ➳ Jet's confession wouldn't be brought back up again until months later when they were dealing with the Greek Gods cyborgs. After a particularly hard fight where Jet and Albert nearly didn't make it out in one piece, Albert confronted Jet and told him all the reasons why they wouldn't work out as a couple. Jet very nearly socked him for basically giving him a resounding 'no' for a second time, (in his mind) when Albert merely ended the explanation with "so have patience with me." It wasn't perfect, but it was more than Jet had been expecting, so he took it. ➳ Jet and Albert's relationship is hardly roses and rainbows, it's rocky and they had a few things to work out as time went on including living arrangements, their histories and personality clashes, and even the more physical parts of their relationship. But, no matter how many times they drifted apart, they always came back together. HABITS AND TICKS ➳Due to living in a gang and on the streets, Jet became a light sleeper out of self defense; he couldn't be caught asleep if someone was going to try and sneak up on him. Consequently, it doesn't take much to wake him, but it also doesn't take long for him to fall asleep either, so if awoken by something non-threatening, he'll just roll over and go right back to sleep. ➳Whenever he gets really excited or anxious, he'll sometimes slip into 60's slang. ➳ Due to his father making out Jet's more sensitive aspects to be a bad thing that made him weak along with the fact he had to be tough around his gang, Jet's built himself up to be more of the 'manly' type. It's also why he always just jumps into situations head first: that thinking stuff is for 'eggheads.' ➳ While it might seem to others that Jet has a death wish with some of the stunts he pulls (and the fact he actually has died on occasion) he's actually the furthest thing from it. He's aware that the world isn't perfect and life isn't fair, but that hasn't stopped him from falling in love with it all. Jet lives for the small things and the possibility of the big things, even if a lot of it he doesn't consider to be in his reach anymore. The natural wonders of the world, the things humans can create, and all of the different possibilities that are out there for people to achieve and discover, that's what keeps him going, that's what he fights for and why he has such a lust for life despite the shit hand it dealt him. As long as he sees possibility and reason, he'll keep fighting to live no matter what. It's such a strong desire, that he doesn't understand when others don't have it. To him, suicide is stupid and never an option because there's just so much you could miss. The only way he'd accept death was if it were a case of 'going out fighting' or for some great reason that benefited others. ➳Jet needs at least one cup of coffee to get going in the morning. He puts quite a bit of cream and sugar in it since he isn't the biggest fan of the taste (he prefers the smell) but sodas don't have enough caffeine in them to work for him and he thinks tea is just boiled grass, so his options are limited. Over the years, he's grown more adjusted to the taste. ➳ It took Jet years to finally stop glancing back in mirrors because he didn't recognize himself. There are still times, mostly when he first wakes up, when he catches himself pausing, but it's mostly stopped. MISC ➳ Right along with his love of novels and fantastical stories in general, Jet has an age old love for comic books. He loves superheros and how they always save the day and uphold freedom and peace; his favorites are Superman and Captain America, with close seconds being Spider-man and the Green Arrow. He's also a fan of the Fantastic Four and has select favorites out of the X-men. ➳ He loves baseball, football, and the Indy 500 the most. He can appreciate basketball, it's just not his sport, but he can't understand the appeal to hockey or soccer. This is often a point of contention between he and Albert. ➳ Jet has a decent singing voice, despite not having any lessons, but he rarely uses it purely because he doesn't want anyone to hear him. While it could easily turn into one of those skills he knows he has and is proud of, he never lets himself because he finds it too embarrassing to try. ➳Jet loves children and animals. Children are (usually) full of hope and possibility, they can often do whatever they set their minds to because they haven't learned the words 'I can't' yet. They're also generally known to be unbiased towards new things and new people, they haven't yet had their opinions colored by others and don't think to use those opinions to judge people, they just take their surroundings at face value. He often feels protective of children if only because he wants to protect that innocence and keep them from going the way he did. Animals are similar in the sense that they also don't care about anything except how you treat them, they're innocent and devoid of the crap politics and hate bring. Needless to say, he's a bit of a soft touch when it comes to small feathered and furred creatures. ➳ Jet always had an affinity for games, both fair ground and arcade, when he was human, but he had a renewed interest in them when Joe showed him console gaming. The two would often play together for hours, even if they got a little competitive about it, they still had a lot of fun together. Unfortunately for Jet, his gaming skills are only a little bit better than his cooking skills.
